Just a few days before Christmas, our kababayans in Visayas and Mindanao were badly hit by Typhoon Odette, and they desperately need your help after the typhoon wiped out their homes and communities overnight. Any donations can aid the immediate needs of the affected victims.

Super Typhoon Odette, “one of the world’s strongest storms” of the year made landfall on 16 December 2021—bringing torrential rains and violent winds to nine regions in Visayas and Mindanao. Flooding, landslides, and strong winds caused serious damage in many provinces in the Philippines, including Siargao, Dinagat, Surigao del Norte, Southern Leyte, Bohol, parts of Cebu, Palawan, and islands in surrounding waters—leaving tens of thousands of people homeless overnight, and vulnerable amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, disruptions to supplies of food, water, power, road access, and communication continue as a result of the devastating typhoon.

We’ve pulled together a list of resources, relief efforts, and donation drives led by the startup community to help the victims of Typhoon Odette:

Deploying hundreds of water filters for communal potable water stations to give clean water access to affected communities across Visayas and Mindanao.

Aside from a fund drive, some Fintech Alliance members will also extend debt relief to affected loan borrowers, providing a limited grace period for amortization payments.

Donation Drive for all victims of Typhoon Odette. All proceeds will go to The Philippine Red Cross to support them in their relief efforts for all those affected.

4. Donation drives powered by PayMongo

Bike Scouts provides the only Volunteer Bicycle Messenger service for disaster response that provides an alternative means of communication for the hardest to reach areas as well as the delivery of essential supplies.
